The role of mandated reporter complicates psychologists' ethical responsibilities to their clients. The New York Mandated Reporting Working Group (NY MRWG) is developing policy solutions to address the harms of mandated reporting to the psychotherapeutic alliance. This session will highlight policy alternatives currently being considered by the NY MRWG. Pending NYS legislation which would remove criminal and civil penalties for “failing to report” will be discussed. This session aims to engage participants in a critical examination of these and other alternatives, and include the opportunity for participants to propose their own suggested alternatives.
